Admission and Requirements

Entry requirements

  1. The Professional Title, Bachelor’s Degree, or Master’s degree is required to apply for the Doctoral Program. Although the desirable undergraduate training is in Psychology, applicants from related disciplines will be accepted, as long as they meet the entry requirements indicated by these regulations.
  2. All applicants for the PhD in Psychology, regardless of the undergraduate degree that enables them to apply, must have followed at least one course in Inferential Statistics prior to their application. If the applicant has not completed a statistics course, he/she should take a brief informative course about the required knowledge of statistics, to be held in January in order to identify topics to be studied by the student, and thus guide such study.
  3. Competence in the use of computer programs, such as word processors and statistical analysis packages.
  4. Certificate proving understanding of the English language, with a higher intermediate level (ALTE 2 or equivalent).

Faculty members will evaluate the information sent by the applicants and will make a pre-selection based on the fit between the applicant profile and the objectives, characteristics and requirements of the Program. Shortlisted applicants will be interviewed by the Program’s Head Office and by one or more members of the faculty.

Documentation to be submitted:

  1. Application for admission to the University by clicking here from September 1st.
  2. Original Certificate of Title / Degree or a photocopy certified as authentic before a notary public. If the applicant is a foreigner, the certificates must be validated by the Chilean Consulate in his/her country of origin and later by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Chile or be apostilled from the countries that are part of the Hague Convention.
  3. Bachelor’s academic transcript and other studies, including advanced and graduate studies. If the applicant is a foreigner, for the academic transcript to be valid in Chile, it must be legalized by the Chilean Consulate in the country of origin and later by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Chile or be apostilled from the countries that are part of the Hague Convention. The evaluation scales used, the minimum accepted grade, and its equivalence with the Chilean scale must be clearly specified.
  4. Three confidential recommendation letters (these should be sent directly by the people who recommend). It is desirable that the letters come from people with a Doctorate Degree (download letter of recommendation in Spanish) (download letter of recommendation in English).
  5. Letter (addressed to Director of the Program) stating and relating the purpose and academic objectives regarding the Doctorate and subsequent career projection. In this letter the applicant should include information on how prior training has prepared him/her for the program to which he/she is applying, what his/her personal academic goals are, and how specific aspects of this program might meet his/her needs and prepare him/her for his/her future academic career aspirations. It is desirable to specify which professors of the program develop research that is consistent with the interests of the applicant and that could eventually be tutors or advisors. The letter must also integrate personal background that has motivated the applicant to continue his/her studies and how this doctoral program is incorporated into this plan. It should not extend beyond two pages to space and a half.
  6. Essay about the research proposal that the applicant is interested in developing as part of the doctoral program. The proposal must be based on a brief bibliographic discussion on the subject, in which conceptual mastery of the subject is evidenced, and it must construct a research problem, specifying its scientific and social relevance. The essay should conclude by pointing out one or more specific research questions. (This basic research proposal will be considered as an academic exercise, without commitment of the applicant to develop it once accepted in the program). Extension of no more than 3 pages to space and a half.
  7. Curriculum vitae (download curriculum vitae format).
  8. Undergraduate degree ranking certificate where the applicant’s position and the total number of students of his / her graduation generation are explicitly stated, issued by the home university, or FORM No. 1 in ANID format (available in the Online application. Said certification must be signed in both cases by the competent authority of the undergraduate university of origin).
  9. Certificate of English language proficiency, which certifies, at least, an understanding of the English language, sufficient to understand it in written form, at a level that allows them to read articles, books and access international documents and databases (ALTE 2 or the equivalent).   10. Identification card or passport.
  11. Complete admission application (download the Admission Application form).

The application documents must be sent in a zipped folder with the name of the applicant and the Program to which he/she is applying.
